Is the distance between the government, student leaders, and BNP increasing? This question has arisen in the minds of many due to the recent remarks from some BNP leaders and student leaders who led the uprising.
Interim government's Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul stated, "BNP and student leaders should not have any distance or misunderstandings between them."
In a status posted on his Facebook page on Sunday, he wrote, “BNP and student leaders (or mass uprising forces) should stay united without any misunderstanding. We have recently seen some evidence of how this can encourage and embolden the genocidal Awami League leaders, activists, and their associates. In the past two days, Facebook was flooded with rumors about Dr. Muhammad Yunus, advisers, and student leaders fleeing. The hysteria around these rumors even led some Awami League leaders and activists to attempt sabotage. A few people even called me in panic, wanting to know what was happening."
The legal adviser continued, "As far as I know and believe:
- BNP is not interested in any conspiracy or something like 1/11.
- Student leaders are not forming any political party or joining one while in government.
- The July declaration will be a political document, and the student leaders sincerely wish to reflect the opinions of the forces of the mass uprising in its drafting.
- BNP and student leaders are not opposed to a broader electoral understanding (its form and formula are open for discussion). So, there is no reason for conflict."
Calling for unity, Asif Nazrul said, "Everyone needs to understand that we have no alternative but unity. The Awami League, the party of the genocidal killers, has millions of stolen crores of money, many blind sycophants and opportunistic groups, a powerful propaganda network, and behind them is a powerful foreign state. To stop them, we must remain united, remembering the sacrifices of the martyrs of the July mass uprising. We may have different opinions, but we must ensure that they don’t become a source of encouragement for the enemies of Bangladesh."
