Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) Standing Committee member Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed reaffirmed that the party is committed to seeing a truly elected government in Bangladesh. Speaking at a discussion held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) to mark the 89th birth anniversary of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Hafiz emphasized the importance of integrity and accountability within the party.
He called on BNP leaders to ensure the party’s image remains untarnished, stressing that those involved in corruption must face strict action. "Leaders must focus on upholding the party’s reputation, and anyone found guilty of corruption will be held accountable," Hafiz warned.
Addressing national security concerns, Hafiz highlighted the current instability at the border and reassured the nation that Zia's soldiers would be adequately trained to protect Bangladesh’s sovereignty. "If needed, we will protect the country’s freedom and sovereignty with our lives," he stated, reiterating the commitment to defending the nation at all costs.
In his speech, Hafiz also called on the government to adopt a neutral stance, urging them to align more closely with the needs of the people. "The government must serve the people, not rely on empty declarations or proclamations. Only concrete actions that address the people’s concerns will bring real benefits," he emphasized, advocating for policies that directly benefit the citizens.
Hafiz’s remarks underscored the BNP's commitment to democratic governance, internal party discipline, and safeguarding Bangladesh's independence and sovereignty.
