A case was filed against 19 people including the son of the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina Sajib Wajed Joy and her ICT State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak(now former). The case was filed Tuesday night at the Kafrul police station under the Cyber Security Act, alleging the leak of National Identity Card (NID) information.
According to the case statement, Sajeeb Wazed Joy and former State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak abused their power and sold citizens' NID information through an organized network. The accused have allowed DigiCon Global Services Limited to use NID data and do business with other institutions without ensuring national security or the protection of personal information. This data was sold to almost 182 institutions. Among the mass people, this created a sense of insecurity. The lawsuit also alleges that about 20 thousand crore taka was embezzled from selling this data.
Meanwhile, After the fall of Hasina regime on August 5, Junaid Ahmed Palak(the former ICT State Minister) has been shown arrested in multiple cases. Yesterday, the court granted him a 24-day remand in a separate case.
