Seven people, including five members of a family sustained burn injuries in a fire apparently from accumulated gas in Dhaka, reports UNB.
The incident took place in a house at Mirpur-11 in the capital on Sunday.
The injured are Abdul Khalil,40, a painter, his wife Ruma Akter,32, and their three sons Abdullah,13, Mohammad,10, and Ismail,4. Besides, tenants of the Sapna,25, and her husband Shahjahan ,35, both are garment workers.
The injured, including six in critical condition, were undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said resident medical officer of the institute Shawon Bin Rahman.
Khalil suffered 95% burns, Ruma 20%, Abdullah 38%, Mohammad 35%, Ismail 20%, Sapna 14% and Shahjahan 6%, he said.
Abdul Halim, Khalil’s brother-in-law, said the room was filled with leaked gas.
The fire broke out when Khalil lit a match to light a mosquito coil around 3 am, leaving them injured, he added.
Milon, Khalil’s elder brother, suspected that gas leak from the house's gas supply line caused gas to accumulate in the room, leading to the fire.
