A court has acquitted 32 people, including BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman, in an explosive case filed in the Joydebpur police station of Gazipur.
District and Sessions Judge 2nd Court Special Tribunal-3 Gazipur Judge Bahauddin Kazi passed the order on Sunday after a long hearing.
According to court sources, Joydebpur Police Station SI Dilip Chandra Sarkar filed a case no. (101(1)15) under the Special Powers (Explosives) Act of 1974 against 40/45 unidentified people, including 18 people, in the Khaspara area of Manipur under the then Hotapara police outpost of Gazipur Sadar Upazila in January 2015, in which a parked bus was set on fire using petrol.
Later, in August of the same year, SI Emdadul Haque investigated and submitted a charge sheet to the court naming 32 people, including BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman and former mayor and state minister late Professor MA Mannan's son Manjurul Karim Rony. The court accepted it. After a long hearing, the case was proven false, and the accused were acquitted of the case this Sunday morning.
