Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Saturday arrested a man who was carrying 32 gold bars with an intention to smuggle those out at Moheshpur in Jhenaidah.
The detainee is identified as Imam Hossain, 30, son of Abdul Khalek, hailing from Chowgacha upazila under Jashore.
He was arrested from in front of BK junior girls’ school at Barobari village near Jadavpur border in Moheshpur upazila.
Lt Col Shahin Azad, commander of 58 BGB, confirmed arrest of the youth and seizure of the gold bars.
He said forces received intelligence report that the youth was going to smuggle the gold bars out.
While Imam Hossain was crossing the road by a motorcycle, BGB intercepted him on suspicion and later made the arrest.
Estimated value of the gold bars measuring 3.719kg is Tk 2.64cr.
