Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the ruling of ICJ against Israel ‘outrageous’.
He also gave two statements – one in Hebrew and a second in English – trying to appeal to the international community, saying that Israel is fighting a just war and that they differentiate between the civilians in Gaza and Hamas.
But, the reality on the ground always shows a different picture and a disconnect between what Israeli officials are saying about targeting civilians and the reality.
Additionally, we’ve been hearing from Defence Minister Yoav Gallant who said that Israel ‘does not need lessons on morality’. He also condemned the ruling.
We are also hearing from another minister, Itamar Gen-Gvir, from the ultra-right camp, who said that it was ‘hypocrisy’.
Also worth noting is that comments from Itamar Gen-Gvir – a known ultra-nationalist – were used in the case against Israel for genocidal language.
Benjamin Netanyahu had asked his cabinet to not speak on the ruling until there was a government consensus. But many members of his government spoke out anyway.
We are also hearing from the Israeli opposition who said that the ICJ ruling was ‘bogus’.
The Israeli prime minister ended his remarks by saying that the war is going to continue via land, air and sea until the Israelis achieve all of their military objectives.
