Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) detained 14 members of Fakhrul dacoit gang along with three firearms and local made sharp weapons from Hatia in Noakhali district, reports BSS.
Lieutenant Commander Khandaker Munif Taki, Media Officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters, confirmed the matter.
He said that for several days, members of the notorious Fakhrul robbers' gang has been carrying out various heinous crimes such as robbery, extortion and fishermen hostage in the Meghna River and adjacent chars under Hatia upazila.
After getting allegations from the local people, the Coast Guard has increased intelligence in the areas.
Based on intelligence information, a special operation was conducted by BCG Station Hatia under Coast Guard South Zone in the area adjacent to Baro Aulia Bazar in Noakhali district on November 23 last.
In the operation, 14 members of Fakhrul dacoit gang were arrested along with three firearms, 13 local sharp weapons, three deer horns, 18 mobile phones, one watch and Taka 48,000 in cash from them.
The arrested dacoits along with the seized firearms, weapons and other materials were handed over to Hatia Police Station for further legal action.
