A domestic and foreign conspiracy is being blamed for efforts to destabilize country's economy, particularly targeting the banking sector and private industries. A group, disguised as patriots, is reportedly behind a media campaign designed to damage key financial institutions, with some experts warning that the damage could be irreversible.
Sources close to the matter claim that a long-standing plot aimed at shutting down 10 banks in the country is now coming to light, with these institutions becoming focal points of a media trial. The handful of businesspeople accused of embezzling funds from the banks allegedly had accomplices who may have siphoned off large sums. Questions are being raised about the whereabouts of these missing deposits and who may be responsible for their disappearance.
Sources suggest that a local faction is playing a significant role in executing a foreign-led scheme to undermine Bangladesh's economy. Part of this plan, includes tarnishing the reputation of the banking sector through negative media coverage. To fully understand the scale of the alleged plot, experts are calling for a thorough investigation into the origins of the capital behind these banks, their profitability, and the identities of those who may have diverted funds over time.
Analysts said that since Bangladesh Bank issues licenses to banks operating in the country, Bangladesh Bank should take all the responsibilities of these banks. Because small depositors have deposited money in these banks or have become customers. If Bangladesh Bank does not take responsibility, what will happen to thousands of depositors now? Who is responsible for protecting depositors? After destroying 10 banks, a blueprint is being drawn to destroy 10 business groups in the same conspiracy. The question is in whose interest is the conspiracy to destroy the country's investors, industrialists and employers.
Those concerned said that if there is competition for products at the private level along with the government, there is a balance in supply. This is how private entrepreneurs are encouraged all over the world. But an anti-national group is strongly opposing any positive initiative at the private level. Various government intelligence agencies have also become very enthusiastic about the 10 business groups.
After a government agency issued a statement to investigate the assets of these businessmen, there has been a negative impact on those businessmen. The propaganda in the name of investigation against the 10 top business groups has also created panic among other businessmen. The question is, whose conspiracy is destroying the country's industrialists? Eminent figures believe that those who are conducting media trials to destroy the country's financial institutions and private industrialists should be charged with treason.
The report of the interim government's white paper committee said that more than 2 lakh crore taka has been looted from the country's banking sector in the 15 and a half years of the previous Awami League government. 10 private banks have reached a state of bankruptcy due to looting. With the help of former Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, the Financial Institutions Department and the support of Bangladesh Bank, top officials including the chairman and MD of the banks have withdrawn the money.
Zahid Hossain, former Chief Economist of the World Bank’s Dhaka office said, “We have recommended taking action against all types of criminals in the financial sector. The government has already taken several initiatives. The Anti-Corruption Commission has been reconstituted. A task force is working.”
