Shah Alam, former officer-in-charge (OC) of Uttara east police station, escaped from police custody after being arrested in connection with multiple cases, including a murder charge.
The incident occurred on Thursday while the police were preparing him to produce before a court in relation to a case involving the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, according top UNB.
Sub-Inspector Abdul Karim said he heard about the escape but declined to provide further details.
According to DMP sources, Shah Alam was arrested outside the capital on Wednesday night. He was facing several charges, including a murder case filed on September 2 .
Shah Alam, who took charge as OC of Uttara east police station on August 1, 2024, managed to escape using a planned strategy, as confirmed by a DMP official.
Following his escape, an assistant sub-inspector on duty was suspended for negligence, although his name was not disclosed.
Efforts to recapture the former OC were ongoing, according to officials.
