Four people, including two helpers of bus drivers and a supervisor, were killed and scores injured in two separate road accidents on Dhaka-Mawa Expressway in Munshiganj, said highway police on Friday.
One accident occurred on Thursday night, while the second one early Friday.
Two of the deceased were identified as bus driver’s helper Md Jiban Sheikh, 24, son of late Nurul Islam of Kalligaon village under Sreenagar upazila and passenger Rayhan, 36, of Debipura village under Sirajdikhan upazila of the district.
The identities of the rest of the casualties could not be known immediately.
Abdul Quader Jilani, officer-in-charge of Hasara highway police station, said a Sreenagar-bound speeding bus of Abdullah Paribahan crashed into a parked covered van from behind on the expressway in Nimtala area under Sirajdikhan upazila around 11:30pm.
The accident left 18 people, including Jiban and Rayhan, injured critically, he said.
They were rushed to nearby Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex, where physicians declared the two dead upon arrival, said Dr Camelia Sarker, a physician of the hospital.
One of the injured was shifted to Dhaka for advance treatment and the rest were released after giving first aid, she said.
Separately around 5am, another Dhaka-bound bus rammed into an unidentified stationary vehicle from behind on the expressway in Hasara area, leaving seven injured.
Of them, the helper and supervisor of the bus succumbed to their injuries on the way to Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex, OC Jilani said.
On December 27, six people were killed and four others injured in a road accident on the expressway at Dhaleshwari Toll Plaza on the expressway.
