Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) conducted a drive in Mirpur on Monday to curb the movement of illegal battery-powered rickshaws on main roads.
The operation took place on the main road in front of Mirpur Bangla School and College, from noon until evening, reports UNB.
DNCC Executive Magistrate Md Mahbub Hasan led the drive, during which 102 battery-powered rickshaws were seized, and a total of 376 batteries were confiscated. The seized vehicles and batteries were auctioned for Tk 18 lakh 50 thousand.
Hasan stated, “The high number of illegal rickshaws on main roads is causing severe traffic congestion and increasing road accidents. This drive will continue to alleviate traffic and ensure road safety.”
