Police have beefed up security around the central office of the Jatiya Party in the Bijoynagar area of the capital, reports Dhaka Tribune.
Strict security measures have been implemented, and no one is being allowed to gather in the vicinity.
Earlier on Saturday, the Jatiya Party had announced a rally outside their party office. In response, the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad declared their intention to prevent the rally.
Following this, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) prohibited any rallies in the area, leading both parties to suspend their events.
This situation follows an attack, vandalism, and arson at the Jatiya Party's central office on Thursday evening, when a group under the banner of “Anti-Fascist Students, Workers, and People” passed by the office, throwing bricks and engaging in clashes, which resulted in a fire.
Both parties claim to have been attacked first.
The protest, organized by the former president of the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, Bin Yamin Molla, began with a torchlight procession from the Raju sculpture at Dhaka University, passing through Shahbagh to Bijoynagar.
Tensions escalated as the procession approached the Jatiya Party office, leading to a confrontational situation between the two groups.
In the lead-up to this tension, Bin Yamin Mollah, President of the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, warned that the Jatiya Party would not be allowed to hold its rally on Saturday.
He characterized the rally as part of a conspiracy to rehabilitate the Awami League and demanded the arrest of Jatiya Party leaders.
Student leader Mashiur Rahman also accused both parties of colluding in attacks against protestors.
In light of the planned events, the DMP issued a ban on all gatherings in the Kakrail area for Saturday, aiming to maintain public order amidst the escalating situation.
