The Bangladesh A team needs to win against the Sri Lanka A team on Tuesday to qualify for the semi-finals from Group A of the eight-nation ACC Men's T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup' 2024.
The last group match between two teams will kick off at 7:30 pm Bangladesh time at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Oman.
The vital Group A match between the second-string Bangladesh and Sri Lanka teams will be very crucial for both sides, as the winner will qualify for the semifinal and the losers will be eliminated from the meet, reports UNB.
Earlier, the Bangladesh A team made a flying start in the meet, beating the Hong Kong National team by five wickets with 10 balls remaining in the opening match at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Oman last Friday.
But the captain Akbar Ali's team, who also led Bangladesh to win the historic U-19 World Cup in 2020, went down in the semifinal race after conceding a four-wicket defeat against the Afghanistan A team in the 2nd match on Sunday.
Afghanistan, almost assured semifinal berth from Group A, securing full four points from straight two matches, beating Sri Lanka by 11 runs and Bangladesh by four wickets, will now face winless Hong Kong in their last group match also on Tuesday.
Eight teams, split into two groups, are competing in the tournament, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the semifinals billed for October 25.
The grand finale of the inaugural T20 tournament will take place on October 27.
The Bangladesh A team is put in Group A with Sri Lanka A, Afghanistan A, and the Hong Kong National Team, while the Group B team consists of India A, Pakistan A, UAE, and the Oman National Team.
