Russia has announced it will provide 30,000 metric tonnes (MT) of Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertilizer to Bangladesh free of charge, as a gesture of friendship and strong bilateral ties between the two nations. Dmitry Konyaev, CEO of Uralchem Group, Russia's second-largest ammonia and nitrogen fertilizer manufacturer, conveyed the announcement in a letter to Bangladesh's Ministry of Agriculture, according to an official statement released today.
Uralchem is committed to promoting global food security. On Wednesday, Ekaterina Semenova, Acting Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Bangladesh, formally presented a letter to Agriculture Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. The letter announced that 30,000 metric tonnes (MT) of Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertilizer will be supplied to Bangladesh free of charge under the United Nations' World Food Programme (WFP).
This follows a similar gesture in 2013, when Uralkali PJSC, one of Russia's leading producers and exporters of potash fertilizer, supplied one million metric tonnes of MoP fertilizer to Bangladesh through a government-to-government contract.
