To promote awareness about tree preservation and encourage planting, the Betagi Upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho in Barguna organized a tree plantation event.
The event was at 9:30 am on Thursday at Putiyakhali Ideal Secondary School in the upazila.
During the programme, members of Shuvosangho planted different fruit tree saplings, including mango, guava, amloki and olive, around the school grounds.
They also highlighted the importance of tree plantation for environmental balance and advised students to avoid using plastic bags.
Present at the event were Putiyakhali Ideal Secondary School's headmaster, Bazlur Rahman, senior assistant teacher Pradip Kumar Biswas, assistant teacher Monowara Begum, and Bashundhara Shuvosangho Betagi unit president Kamal Hossain Khan. Other notable attendees included Shuvosangho advisor and Kaler Kantho's local representative Swapan Kumar Dhali, as well as several assistant teachers, staff members and students.
Addressing the event, Shuvosangho's Betagi upazila unit president Kamal Hossain Khan said that nature, biodiversity and human survival are deeply interconnected. He emphasised the critical role of trees in sustaining life and expressed concerns about the dwindling tree population due to unplanned urbanisation, leading to ecological imbalance and rising temperatures.
Bazlur Rahman, Putiyakhali Ideal Secondary School, said, "It is our responsibility to preserve the earth as a green and livable place. The large trees providing shade today weren’t planted by us, so we must plant trees now for future generations."
