Akshay Kumar’s highly awaited film, based on the life of Indian lawyer and statesman C Sankaran Nair, is scheduled to hit theaters on March 14, 2025.
The news was shared on Friday, October 18, by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions via social media. The film, still untitled, will also feature R Madhavan and Ananya Panday in important roles.
Set against the backdrop of the infamous Jallianwala Bagh massacre, the film delves into the extraordinary life of barrister C Sankaran Nair, a figure who stood up to the British Empire and fought to expose the atrocities committed during one of the darkest chapters of India’s colonial history.
The storyline, adapted from the book The Case That Shook The Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat, centres on Nair’s battle to bring the massacre to public attention, challenging the British administration in a courtroom drama of unparalleled significance.
The Jallianwala Bagh massacre, which occurred in 1919, saw the killing of hundreds of unarmed Indian civilians by British forces, marking a pivotal moment in India’s struggle for independence.
In an official statement from Dharma Productions, it was mentioned, "The untitled film on the shocking cover-up of a massacre that pushed India's top barrister C Sankaran Nair to fight an unprecedented battle against the British Empire.
The film is inspired by real-life events and adapted from the book 'The Case That Shook The Empire'."
Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, the film is expected to be a gripping courtroom drama. While further details of the plot remain under wraps, it promises to be a hard-hitting narrative, with Akshay Kumar playing the lead role of Nair.
Akshay Kumar, who has been going through a challenging phase at the box office, recently wrapped up filming for his comedy Housefull 5, which had an overseas shooting schedule.
Despite the actor’s recent struggle at the box office, he has a promising line-up of upcoming films, including Jolly LLB 3, Singham Again (where he makes a special appearance), and Sky Force, among others.
Fans of Akshay Kumar and historical dramas alike are eagerly awaiting the film’s release, hoping it will shed light on the life and achievements of a lesser-known but deeply significant figure in India’s legal history.
