Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a courtesy meeting with Augie Fabela, Chairman of VEON, the parent company of mobile operator Banglalink on Monday morning.
The meeting took place at 9:30 a.m. at the Prime Minister's Office in the National Parliament Complex.
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam, Prime Minister's Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Rehan Asif Asad, VEON Board Member Michiel Soeting and Banglalink Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Johan Hendrik Martinus BUS were present at the meeting.
The Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Hossain Shadhin confirmed the meeting to the media.
He said the discussions focused on making digital services more accessible to the public.
During the meeting, Prime Minister urged Banglalink to take initiatives to make smartphones more affordable and accessible to customers so that people from all walks of life can own and use smartphones.
He also called on the company to consider further reducing internet prices to expand digital connectivity.
