Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister's Defence Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam at his office in the Armed Forces Division at Dhaka Cantonment on Monday.
A three-member Japanese delegation accompanied the ambassador during the meeting.
The two sides discussed issues of mutual interest, with particular focus on expanding bilateral military and defence cooperation.
They also discussed Japan's technical assistance for the modernisation of the Bangladesh Armed Forces and the implementation of the Forces Goal.
Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation through military training, regular exchange visits by defence delegations, and the development of professional and technical skills of armed forces personnel.
They also explored new opportunities for cooperation in modern defence equipment and technology.
Officials said the courtesy call would further strengthen the longstanding friendship between Bangladesh and Japan and deepen strategic cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries.
