Ekushey Padak-winning artist, cultural personality Mustafa Monwar has passed away.
He breathed his last at around 8:30 am on Monday (June 29) while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital. (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji'un).
According to family sources, Mustafa Monwar was admitted to Square Hospital in Dhaka on June 14 after contracting bacterial pneumonia. Earlier, in September 2024, he was hospitalised with prostate cancer and was placed on life support.
He later recovered after receiving treatment in New Delhi, India. Nearly two years after that illness, he was again admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after being diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia.
Throughout his long career, Mustafa Monwar earned widespread respect as one of the country's most distinguished cultural figures through his outstanding contributions to fine arts, children's television programming, broadcasting and the cultural arena.
In recognition of his exceptional contribution to art and culture, he was awarded the prestigious Ekushey Padak in 2004.
