South Korea on Monday unveiled plans for a record 800 trillion won ($518 billion) investment to build an artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor hub in the country's comparatively underdeveloped southwestern region.
The massive project will include four semiconductor fabrication plants, along with a network of partner companies to support chip production.
Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan announced the investment during a briefing at the presidential office, describing it as a major step toward strengthening South Korea's global competitiveness in the semiconductor industry.
