Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Monday that $6 billion of the country's frozen funds held in Qatar would be released under a recent agreement with the United States, the remarks were reported by Al Jazeera/ APA.
Speaking during a visit to the holy city of Qom, Pezeshkian described the agreement as "a significant achievement and a major victory for the Iranian people."
He said sanctions on Iran's oil and petrochemical sectors had been lifted under the agreement.
“According to the established plan, $6bn of the $12bn of our frozen funds in Qatar will be released and returned to the country,” he said.
He added that Iran would continue efforts to recover the remaining frozen assets.
Pezeshkian also reiterated that Iran is not seeking to develop nuclear weapons.
“The late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declared we are not seeking to acquire nuclear weapons, and we continue to emphasise this position,” he said.
He said Iran's nuclear activities would remain proportionate to the country's needs and within the framework of its declared policies.
