BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi burned Indian saree in the streets in protest against attacks on Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Assam and the desecration of Bangladesh’s flag in various parts of India.
On Thursday, during a program titled "Deshiyo Ponno, Kine Hou Dhonno”(meaning Buy Local Products, Be Proud) in front of the National Press Club, Rizvi threw the Indian saree onto the ground. He then instructed party activists present to set the saree on fire. Following his order, activists ignited and burned the sarees.
Rizvi expressed his support for the Bangladeshi government’s decision to suspend the issuance of Indian visas, calling it the right step.
He stated, "We will survive on one meal a day, but we will not bow our heads."
He further criticized India’s support for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, saying, “Sheikh Hasina has carried out enforced disappearances, murders, and shed the blood of students on the streets. India likes her but not Bangladesh.”
The senior BNP leader added, “There may be one or two individuals like Sheikh Hasina who would blindly follow India’s orders. But millions of Bengalis stand against this.”
Many other party leaders, activists, and supporters were present at the event.
