Education Adviser Dr Wahiduddin Mahmud said on Monday that every teacher of a university aspires to be vice chancellor or pro-vice chancellor without focusing on their role as an educator.
“Some 300, 400, to 500 university teachers want to become the VC and Pro VC. They are not interested in focusing on their role as teachers,” he lamented.
Dr Mahmud, who is also the Planning Adviser, raised the question while addressing a press conference about the outcomes of the ECNEC meeting held at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area of Dhaka.
During the briefing, the adviser’s cell phone rang twice and subsequently on both occasions the phone was silenced by a member of the Planning Commission.
Witnessing the number, he squeezed his eyebrows and said, “I can't understand why all the teachers of the universities want to be the VC, I never wanted to be a VC," he said, Daily Sun reports.
