An abandoned shotgun was recovered by the law enforcers from a graveyard in Kabirhat upazila of the district on Thursday night, reports BSS.
Former Member of Parliament Ekramul Karim Chowdhury was the owner of the shotgun that has not been submitted to the police station.
Police Super of Noakhali Mohammad Asaduzzaman said on information joint forces made of police, army and RAB conducted a raid in the graveyard close to Ekramul Karim Chowdhury's house at Shundolpur village at around 9.15 pm and found a plastic sack. Opening the sack they saw the licensed shotgun.
Former upazila Parishad Chairman Atahar Ishraque Shabab Chowdhury said his father was the owner of the shotgun that has not been submitted to Kabirhat Thana in time as his father Ekramul Kabir Chowdhury was sick. It was known to Thana authority, he added.
12 rounds of cartridges were recovered in the drive.
A case is being processed to file.
The interim government asked the gun owners to submit their firearms and ammunition along with the suspended licenses to the relevant police stations within 3 September.
