Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam on Thursday said the government has the responsibility to look after the families of martyrs, who were killed during the students-people upsurge.
"We achieved a new Bangladesh through the bloodshed of students and mass people during the revolution," he said during a meeting with the family members of Md Ramzan Ali, who was killed during the revolution at Baipal, reports BSS.
Nahid, also Posts and Telecommunication adviser, said, "Today, we are alive for the sacrifice of the martyrs and get back the freedom of expression."
The adviser enquired about the family of Ramzan Ali and pledged to provide monthly allowances to all martyred families.
Father and sister of Ramzan Ali were present in the meeting.
Shaheed Ramzan, a graduate student at Singra in Natore, was killed on August 5 as police fired at him indiscriminately.
