The Shaheedi (Martyrdom) March, for the honor of the people who sacrificed their lives in the movement of students and mass people that overthrown the autocratic rule of Sheikh Hasina, has started on Thursday afternoon.
At 3:30 pm on Thursday, the students started the Martyrs March from Dhaka University's (DU) Anti-terrorism Raju Sculpture. Students and common people from various universities, colleges, technical institutions, madrasas and schools of Dhaka including Dhaka University participated in it.
The march has begun from Raju Memorial Sculpture in the university, passes through areas like Nilkhet-Sciencelab-Kala Bagan-Parliament Bhavan-Farmgate-Karwan Bazar-Shahbagh and scheduled to return to Raju Sculpture again and to conclude with a rally at Shaheed Minar.
Earlier, students of various schools, colleges and universities gathered in front of the Raju Sculpture. Later, the Martyrdom March started from there with a huge procession.
The students chanted slogans like 'May it be successful, May the Martyrdom March be successful', 'Because of the martyrs, I am not afraid of death', Abu Sayed/Martyrs' blood, I will not give it in vain', 'Abu Sayed/Martyrs are remembered on this day' etc.
The speakers at the procession said, “Exactly one month ago we got independent Bangladesh by overthrowing Dictator Sheikh Hasina. Thousands of our students had to sacrifice their lives for achieving this freedom. Thousands of students and mass public were injured, many were crippled, and many are still in hospital beds. We remember with respect those martyrs and wounded for giving us a free country.”
