BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been acquitted from five sedition cases filed against her.
The judge of the Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court announced the verdict on Tuesday morning.
Khaleda Zia's lawyer Masud Ahmed Talukder confirmed the matter.
Out of these cases, two cases were filed against celebrating fake birthdays and taunting freedom fighters. The remaining three were filed for defamation.
Khaleda Zia's lawyer Masood Ahmed Talukder filed an application seeking acquittal in five cases of defamation, including celebrating a fake birthday.
He said that Begum Zia was acquitted because the plaintiff in the case died four years ago. Besides, the court postponed the hearing of the NAICO corruption case till September 8 due to the absence of witnesses.
