Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) of Dhaka district Abdullahil Kafi has been arrested on charges of involvement in the killing of protesters and burning their bodies in Ashulia on August 5, reports Daily Sun.
A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested him from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while attempting to flee the country, confirmed Riaz Uddin Biplob, Officer-in-Charge (DB) of Dhaka North.
Law enforcement received a tip-off earlier in the day about Kafi's escape plans, according to the officials.
After hours of intense efforts, a team from the DB managed to detain him at the airport around 10:00pm.
The law enforcement agencies stated that Kafi faces serious allegations, including the murder of protesters and the subsequent burning of their bodies during the violent crackdown in Ashulia on August 5.
