The leaders of Hefazat-e Islam and six other Islamic parties had a meeting with Professor Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisors of the interim government. In the meeting, they proposed that one person should not serve more than two terms as the Prime Minister of the country. Besides, they asked the government to conduct the reforms with a reasonable time and organize the national elections.
The meeting of the leaders of the Islamic parties with the Chief Advisor was held at the State Guest House Jamuna on Saturday afternoon. Earlier, leaders of Islamic parties went to Yamuna at 3 pm.
At the end of the meeting, the leader of Hefazat-e Islam and secretary general of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Mawlana Mamunul Haque, told reporters that they have proposed that a person should not hold the post of Prime Minister for more than two terms. Apart from this, they asked the government to hold the national elections by carrying out the reforms with a reasonable time. They mentioned that the election should not be delayed unnecessarily.
Mamunul Haque said the chief adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus agreed to such a proposal of the Islamic parties and expressed his desire to proceed to elections without delay after the necessary reforms.
He said that among the political parties related to Hefazat-e Islam, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Khilafat Majlis, Jamiat Ulamae Islam Bangladesh, Nezame Islam and leaders of Khilafat Andolon attended the meeting.
Mamunul Haque said that each party presented reform proposals to the chief adviser, and one of the fundamental proposals that came was the reform of the electoral system. He said, "We have proposed a fundamental change to ensure the representation of all voters in the National Assembly."
