A case has been filed with Rupganj Police Station against 88 individuals, including former Minister of Jute and Textiles Golam Dastagir Gazi and Chairman of Rongdhanu Group Rafiqul Islam on charges of attacking a residence, vandalising, looting, and firing shots, reports Daily Sun.
Local BNP leader Babul Shikdar filed the case on Wednesday night. At least 48 people were named and 40 were made unidentified accused in the case.
The mentionable accused in the case are Golam Mortuza Pappa, son of Golam Dastagir Gazi, Gazi’s APS Emdadul Haque, Nafiz Iqbal, Kamruzzaman Hira, Ahsanul Haque Konkan, Rongdhanu Group Director Mizanur Rahman Mizan, Upazila Secha Sebok League President Iman Hasan Khokon, General Secretary Alamgir Hossain, Councilor Zakaria, Firoz Bhuiyan, among others.
Plaintiff Babul Shikdar said, due to previous enmity and disputes over dominance, on 17 April, 2023, a group equipped with local weapons entered his residence and carried out an attack. During this time, they caused damage worth approximately Tk14 lakhs and looted 9 vori (a unit of weight) of gold.
After that, they also attacked and vandalised the house of Babul Shikdar's nephew, Arif Hasan Arab, causing damage worth Tk10 lakhs. As nearby people rushed to the scene, the attackers fired blank shots and fled the area.
On the same day, an attempt to murder case was filed against 74 people including Golam Dastagir Gazi by an individual named Ayub Ali with Rupganj Police Station.
In this case, 59 people were named, and 10-15 were made unidentified accused.
