The Public Security Division of the Home Ministry on Wednesday issued a gazette lifting a ban on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir.
The gazette said, the government cancelled the notification issued on August 24, 2024 that banned Jamaat, as it did not find any specific information and evidence about Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir and other affiliates’ involvement in terrorism and violence and the government also believes that the party has no involvement in terrorism activities.
Earlier the government has withdrawn the ban on the politics of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir.
On August 1, the former Awami League government banned Jamaat-Shibir, and all of its associated organisations as political entities under the Anti-Terrorism Act-2009 amid a surge in student and public protests.
