Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) chief Mufti Jasim Uddin Rahmani has been freed from jail on bail in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Jasim Uddin walked out of the Kashimpur High-Security Central Jail around 11:45 am on Monday, Jailer, Mohammad Lutfor Rahman confirmed to the media.
The jail authority released Mufti Jasim Uddin after verifying his bail order.
A case under the Anti-Terrorism Act was filed against Jasim Uddin, a resident of Khajurtola village under Barguna Sadar Upazila, with Uttara West Police Station on February 6, 2008.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court granted his bail petition on August 25, paving a path for him to come out of jail.
Mufti Jasim Uddin, a leader of the religion-based organisation, has also been acquitted from three cases.
On February 15, 2013, blogger Rajib Haidar was hacked to death in front of his residence in Pallabi area of Dhaka. Later, the victim’s family members filed a case with Pallabi Police Station.
Later on August 12, 2013, law enforcement agencies arrested Jasim Uddin from his Barguna residence and a Dhaka court sentenced him to five years imprisonment in connection with the murder case.
