A nine-day flower festival at Faujdarhat-Port Link Road in Chattogram is drawing visitors’ attention hugely, reports UNB.
The site used to be considered “unsafe” and was frequented by drug users after evening, according to locals. But now, various types of flowers and the birds they attract are vying for the attention of nature-lovers.
The local administration took the initiative to turn the abandoned place as ‘DC Flower Park’ where the first “flower festival” of Chattogram is taking place.
The festival started on Friday evening and will continue till February 18.
Already more than 5,000 flowers of 122 local and foreign varieties have been planted on the 194 acres of khas land.
Apart from the flower festival, local administration has also arranged kayaking, kite festival, fishing and kids’ zone in the park.
According to the sources at local administration, in the first phase they will sow 30,000 flower plants and it will be extended in future.
Deputy Commissioner Abul Bashar Md Fakhruzzaman hoped that the flower festival would inspire positive and creative thoughts among the young and provide much-needed respite to the port city residents. The park and the flower festival are open to all, he said.
