Bashundhara Group distributed blankets among 1,000 cold-stricken poor and destitute people at Monohardi in Narsingdi on Sunday.
The blanket distribution points were Monohardi bus stop, Tahfizul Quran Wassunnah Madrasa and Orphanage, and Bhitipara Mohammadia Hafizia Madrasa and Orphanage, reports The daily Sun.
The blankets were given to insolvent elderly people from various parts of the upazila and children of orphanages.
Shuvo Sangha, a social organisation of the Bashundhara Group's vernacular daily Kaler Kantho, distributed the blankets on behalf of the country’s largest business conglomerate.
Zakaria Zaman, director of Shuvo Sangha, AKM Zahirul Haque, member of Narsingdi Zila Parishad, Masud Rana, president of Monohardi unit of Shuvo Sangha, Kamrul Islam, general secretary of the organisation, among others, were present.
In an instant reaction, madrasa teacher Muhtamim Mufti Masum Billah said “Most of the children of our institution are orphans. The blankets of the Bashundhara Group will be of great help to fight pinching cold. We pray for welfare of the Bashundhara Group Chairman and his family members.”
Zakaria Zaman said “We are distributing blankets among poor and destitute across the country as per directive of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan. As part of this, we have reached Monohardi.”
