Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told the Parliament that the countrymen will judge the success or failure of the government, reports BSS and UNB.
"It's not my job to evaluate (success or failure)," she said while replying to a query of Jatiya Party lawmaker Fakhrul Imam from Mymensingh-8 constituency during her question-answer session in Parliament on Wednesday.
Sheikh Hasina said, "If I work with honesty for specific goals considering the welfare of the people, why will I fail? Why do I have to fail if I work with integrity? People will judge whether success or failure is. When the questioner (Fakhrul Imam) is so interested, find out my failures, I will correct those."
Referring to her return to the country in 1981, the Leader of the House said that which is a success or failure, that is not much important rather it's more important that Bangladesh has to be made a developed and prosperous country.
"I returned home with the conviction to establish the ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. I have travelled across Bangladesh. I knew Bangladesh. After the formation of the government, I've worked with the desire that the people at the grassroots should lead a better life. Now, people are getting benefits of it."
In response to a question from ruling party lawmaker AKM Rahmatullah, she said that after killing Bangabandhu, late Gen. Ziaur Rahman seized power illegally and freed the war criminals and rehabilitated them.
By changing two clauses of the constitution, Zia allowed them to do politics and gave them the right to vote.
“Many war criminals including Ghulam Azam were brought back from Pakistan and given citizenship. Zia made war criminals as advisors and ministers," she said.
Hasina alleged that Zia’s wife Khaleda Zia also gave war criminals a place in her cabinet after she came to power.
In response to ruling party MP Benazir Ahmed's question, the Prime Minister said that the corona pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war have affected the global economy.
Admitting the situation she said, “Bangladesh is no exception. Along with other overall economic and social negative effects, this has affected the market prices of daily necessities."
In reply to a supplementary question from Awami League MP Mozaffar Hossain, Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh's garment industry has expanded widely, but there are difficulties finding technical persons there.
She said her government has established textile universities and colleges to create skilled manpower in this sector.
Hasina said that at the moment the government has no plan to create any new cadre in the BCS.
