The Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) has formulated a working committee based on the recommendation of an organisation to implement the Detailed Area Plan (DAP) of the capital Dhaka. The entrepreneurs of the housing sector have welcomed this committee formed for the implementation of DAP.
However, experts say, it is important to keep the representation of major housing sector organisations in implementing this detailed plan. At the same time, the implementation of DAP would have been easier if there was an opportunity to accept the logical proposals of all concerned rather than making a working committee based on the recommendation of only one organisation. They say that one of the reasons behind the non-fulfillment of DAP in 2010 was non-inclusion of the concerned entrepreneurs.
Responding to a query of the journalists, Urban planner Dr Adil Mohammad Khan said, “Welcome for formulating a working committee. But it should be with all concerned. It was seen that big organisations like BLDA or REHAB gave good opinion. There should be an opportunity of discussion with them too. It is normal to have it. But I cannot welcome a working committee made up of recommendations from just one organisation (IAB). It is not clarified that there will be a discussion about the rational opinion of the persons concerned with DAP. It is not appropriate to discuss the recommendations of any particular organisation in a government institution.”
Urban experts say that it is very important to take the opinion of major organisations in the housing sector, including Bangladesh Land Developers Association (BLDA), Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB). If major stakeholders do not come forward to implement DAP, it will be difficult to make the capital livable.
