Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of the country want more administrative power to run the districts smoothly and ensure the security of the top government officials in their respective districts.
To meet these demands, the DCs will give some proposals in the upcoming three-day annual conference of Deputy Commissioners (DCs) is set to begin on 24 January.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the event from her office at 10 am that day.
New Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain will deliver the welcome speech at the conference.
State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain will also give a speech besides the DCs. Various video documentaries and pictures will be screened at the conference.
As part of the conference, the DCs will participate in 26 programmes and sessions.
The DCs will also take part in an open discussion with the Prime Minister on the first day of the event which is the most important part of the conference. In this part, DCs and Divisional Commissioners will present overall development, challenges, political pressures and limitation scenario to the Prime Minister. After hearing all statements, the Premier will give necessary directives.
Later, DCs will participate in a photo session with the Prime Minister. In the evening participants will attend a dinner that night with the Prime Minister at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC).
The working sessions will start in the capital’s Osmani Memorial Auditorium following the inauguration programme. The sessions will be held at the auditorium where DCs will take the party with the President, Speaker, and Chief Justice.
Ministers, deputy ministers and state ministers will take in the concerned sessions.
The DCs will raise some proposals at the conference. Some proposals which have already been sent are:
Gopalganj DC Kazi Mahbubul Alam has sent a proposal to form district and upazila health committees led by DCs and UNOs showing logic in increasing monitoring and coordination in the country’s health management.
Patuakhali DC Md Shariful Islam proposed to hand over the power of collecting revenue and expenditure to the DCs to utilize the government fund properly.
Joypurhat DC Salehin Tanvir Gazi proposed to get the power to cancel the acknowledgement paper of khas land.
Mymensingh DC Mostafizur Rahman proposed to increase DC’s power to increase the financial expenditures in DC’s L A contingency sector.
Magura DC Mohammad Abu Naser Baig proposed to coordinate the survey and settlement office with the DCs for the sake of good works.
Gazipur DC Anisur Rahman proposed to permit the DCs while allotting lands for the government organisations.
Kishoreganj DC Abul Kalam Azad proposed to take necessary measures to ensure the security of the government houses in every district allotted for the ADCs and ACs (land).
Among the 242 decisions, which were taken at the DC Conference in 2022, only 177 decisions could be implemented which is 27 per cent is the total decisions. The rest 65 decisions are yet to be implemented a year after the DC conference held on January 17 last year.
