Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained a motorcyclist along with 63 gold bars weighing 7.337 kg from the Sharsha border of Benapole in Jashore on Tuesday afternoon.
The gold shipment was seized from the Agrabhulat border in the area. These gold bars were kept tactfully in the motorcycle's chassis.
The detainee Abdur Razzak (48) is the son of deceased Shamsher Ali of Baroputa village under Benapole Port Police Station, reports Daily Sun.
BGB Khulna 21 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Tanveer Rahman said, “A large shipment of gold was being smuggled into India. On receiving the information, a raid was conducted at the Agrabhulat border. A motorcyclist was stopped and searched on suspicion. During the search, 63 gold bars were found cleverly hidden in the motorcycle's chassis.”
The estimated market value of the seized gold bars and motorcycle is Tk 5.9 crore, he added.
Razzak was handed over to Sharsha Police Station along with the gold bars.
