A total of 42 smugglers were held during the smuggling of 155.671 kilograms of gold in 11 months.
Members of Jashore 49 BGB Battalion and Khulna 28 BGB Battalion seized huge gold during smuggling through the Khulna frontier to India from January 1 to November 30, 2022, reports Daily Sun.
Jashore 49 BGB Battalion seized maximum gold weighing 79.473 kg worth Tk 668,736,700 and arrested 16 smugglers.
Sensing the presence of BGB, three more smugglers fled the scene. The BGB members also filed a case against those who fled.
Khulna BGB-28, on the other hand, seized 42.407 kg of gold which was being smuggled through the frontier under the battalion. The market price of the seized gold is almost Tk 302,982,178. The BGB 28 nabbed 18 smugglers involved with gold smuggling.
Although huge gold was seized from smugglers, godfathers of the smuggling are untraced. As such, law enforcers are unable to control smuggling.
In addition to BGB, Jashore Sarsha Police Station along with the Detective Branch (DB) of Police jointly conducted a raid and arrested four smugglers with 17.008-gram gold.
Besides, two smugglers were nabbed with 30 gold bars weighing 9.758 kg worth Tk 80,000,000 crore at the Saat Mile area under the upazila.
