Three people including two members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were killed and another was injured in a road accident on the Magura-Jhenaidah highway in Rautara Shitrish area under Sadar upazila of the district on Friday morning, reports BSS.
The deceased were identified as RAB members Corporal Anisur Rahman, 36, a resident of Barisal district, Constable Faruk Hossain, 35, an inhabitant of Joypurhat district and Anwar Hossain, 45, driver of the pickup van who used to live in the capital.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Magura Highway Police Liakat Ali said the accident occurred when a phensidyl-laden pickup van, heading towards Dhaka, hit a microbus of the RAB personnel in the area while it was on way to Magura district town around 3am, leaving Anisur Rahman died on the spot and injuring three others.
Critically wounded Faruk Hossain and Anowar Hossain succumbed to their injuries at Magura 250-bed Hospital and injured RAB personnel Nazmul Hossain has been sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
A huge number of phensidyl were recovered from the vehicle.
