Gaza Health Ministry official says hospitals “flooded with an influx of dead bodies” as Israeli forces intensified the ground attack.
“The Israeli occupation is deliberately bombing hospitals in Gaza to put them out of service,” Health Ministry spokesperson Ashraf al-Qudra said, adding that it was causing a “circle of death” for medical workers, along with the displaced and injured, reports Al Jazeera.
He added that Israel had bombed several areas where displaced Palestinians were taking shelter near Gaza City, including the Salah ud-Din school, a building near the Baptist Hospital and a crowded square.
Since the early morning, hospitals in Gaza have been receiving dozens of bodies as Israeli air strikes continue to pound the enclave for a fourth consecutive day after the collapse of the truce.
Only nine of Gaza’s 35 hospitals are still operational, and health officials warn that the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza could close down within hours due to a lack of electricity.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian WAFA news agency is reporting that Israeli raids are taking place in the Qalandiya camp and Kufr Aqab in occupied West Bank.
At least 15 Palestinians have been wounded, four of them seriously, in the raids, it said.
Israeli attacks on the Shujayea neighbourhood, east of Gaza City, have destroyed more than 50 homes.
Israel’s military widens its ground offensive in southern Gaza as Palestinian officials say more than 800 people killed since Saturday.
The regime also arrested more Palestinians in overnight and early morning raids across the occupied West Bank.
Meanwhile, Palestinians are speaking out against what they say are “Guantanamo-like” conditions in Israeli jails, where thousands are held without charge.
Ramzi Abbasi said his stay in Israel’s Nafha prison was “like a horror movie”, with rampant physical and sexual abuse.
Speaking to Qatar-based Al Jazeera media outlet, Ramzi Abbasi said he is “still coming to terms with how he survived those dark days”.
More than 7,000 Palestinian prisoners are in Israeli jails.
