Visiting the market at Hili on Thursday noon, a correspondent of a media came to know that 1kg of ginger was being sold at Tk 280, although it was Tk 90- 100 in the last week while onion was being sold at Tk 75 per kg.
In the last week, the onion price was Tk 45 for a kg. Green chili was seen selling at Tk 120 today while it was Tk 90 -100 a week ago.
Alam Hossain, a trader at Hili Bazar, said, “The Eid-ul-Azha is approaching. There will be a huge demand for ginger during that time. As a result, ginger price increased by Tk 180 abruptly. At present, one kg ginger is being sold at Tk 280 at Hili.”
Expressing regret, another one named Abdul Alim said, “Eid is still too late. But the price of ginger is now out of reach of the commoners. There should be a limit of price hike.”
