The construction of Baitur Rahman Jame Mosque has been inaugurated in the Bashundhara Residential Area of the capital.
Bashundhara Group, the nation’s leading industrial conglomerate, donated the land for this mosque.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Friday afternoon on Plot 3585, Road 73 & 74, Block L.
The event was led by prominent Islamic scholar and Chairman of As-Sunnah Foundation Sheikh Ahmadullah. Attendees included mosque committee members, representatives from Bashundhara Group, residents of Block L, worshippers and other invited guests.
Addressing the ceremony, Sheikh Ahmadullah said, "We have gathered to initiate a house of Allah (mosque), where people will perform prayers five times a day. It’s a privilege for us to come together for this purpose and to begin this construction work."
He said that for many attendees, this might be the first time participating in a mosque’s construction ceremony, making it a historic moment. “A mosque remains forever, while a home doesn’t have even a 50-year guarantee; it can be sold anytime,” he noted.
Sheikh Ahmadullah expressed gratitude to Bashundhara Group for its continued support in the mosque's construction.
The event was attended by senior officials from Bashundhara Group, including Senior GM of East West Property Development Limited (EWPD) M A Hossain, AGM Siddiqur Rahman Liton, and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Bashundhara LP Gas Ltd.
Mosque committee President Shah Omar Faruq, General Secretary Mainul Islam and Treasurer Shamsul Alam were also present, among others.
Mosque committee members informed that, with the necessary approvals, a high-quality tin-shed mosque will be built at this location. The estimated cost to complete the mosque according to its proposed design is approximately Tk7 million.
