Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the much-awaited metro rail – running from Uttara to Agargaon segment tomorrow (Wednesday).
She will inaugurate the operation of the project at 11 am from the Uttara sector-15 playground.
By cutting the red ribbon, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will become the first passenger of the city's most modern transport system.
As the government is starting the operation on a limited scale, it will take 20 minutes to travel the 11.73 Km distance from Uttara to Agargaon but soon it will shorten to 16-17 minutes, said the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited authority.
After the opening, the metro rail will run straight from Uttara to Agargaon without any stop at any intermediate station along the route. Commuters will be able to take a trip on the train from the next day (Thursday).
Ahead of the inauguration, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday greeted all who were involved in the implementation of the country's first-ever elevated metro rail.
Children below three feet and Freedom Fighters can ride on the metro for free.
Children below three feet will not be charged if they are accompanied by their parents. But if without a guardian they will have to pay for the ride.
Setting a history, Mariam Afiza will emerge as the first metro rail operator of the Mass Rapid Transit line-6 from the Uttara-Agargaon segment tomorrow.
On June 24, 2016, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched the construction work of the metro rail project, also known as the MRT Line-6.
