Prof Dr Muhammed Alamgir has been appointed chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) as an additional charge.
The Ministry of Education on Wednesday issued a notification confirming his appointment.
His appointment will be effective before the appointment of the regular chairman, it said.
Prof Alamgir is a member of UGC and he was acting chairman of the organization following the resignation of former chairman Kazi Shahidullah.
