Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh's across-format skipper, decided to step down as T20I captain.
BCB President Faruque Ahmed confirmed to the media yesterday, saying, "Shanto has finally decided that he will no longer captain the T20I team. We have accepted this decision."
"However, since there are no upcoming T20I matches for now and we have time, we will not appoint a new captain immediately. If there are no injury concerns, Shanto will remain the captain for the ODI and Test formats. This has been agreed upon," he added.
Amidst criticism, Shanto revealed during the South Africa series in October that he no longer wished to captain any format. However, the BCB was reluctant to let him step down.
That said, it is quite easy to speculate who will be the new T20I captain. Under Liton Das' leadership, Bangladesh won the T20I series 3-0 against the West Indies.
If all goes well, Liton is set to become the next captain.
