Former Bangladesh captain and director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Khaled Mahmud, has resigned from his post.
Mahmud, who had been with the board for years, played a crucial role in developing the U-19 squad that famously won the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2020. He was also known as a popular coach to the local players, including some of the national players who have great records for Bangladesh, UNB reports.
However, he was often criticized for holding multiple roles both within and outside the board, which many believe led to an unprecedented level of internal conflict.
Along with board duties as a director, Mahmud also served as the director of the Bangladesh national team on several occasions. His tenure, however, was marked by some of the most controversial moments in the country’s cricket history, for which he was often blamed.
Mahmud is the latest director to step down, following the resignations of Nazmul Hasan Papon, the former BCB president, along with Jalal Yunus, Tanvir Ahmed, Naimur Rahman, and Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel.
