England beat Sri Lanka by 4 wickets in Group 1 Super 12 match in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup held at Sidney in Australia on Saturday.
With this win they secured 7 points from 5 games, but confirmed their place in semifinals on the basis of better Net Run Rate over Australia.
Earlier, winning the toss Sri Lanka elected to bat first. They got good start with openers Pathum Nishanka and Kusal Mendis. Especially, Nishanka hammered an attacking knock of 67 off 45 balls.
However, Lankan batters lost the momentum with time and English bowler Mark Wood and Adil Rashid bowled convincingly to restrict them under 150.
Mark Wood grabbed 3 wickets for 26. Adil Rashid took 1 wicket, but gave away just 16 runs from his 4 overs.
In reply, England also got a good start with openers Jos Butler and Alex Hales and one-downer Ben Stokes. Hales hammered 47 off 30 balls, while Stokes scored 42 off 36 balls.
As the Englishmen were not in pressure of chasing a mammoth total, they chase it down clinically.
