Bashundhara Shuvosangho Wari Thana unit organised a human chain and awareness programme in the capital to demand stronger measures against child abuse and rape, ensure child protection and uphold respect and rights for women.
Members of the organisation gathered in front of the National Press Club recently and displayed awareness posters condemning violence against children and women. They also urged people from all walks of life to take a stronger stand against abuse and discrimination.
Participants said ensuring the safety of children and women remains a key responsibility of a civilised society. They called for coordinated efforts by families, educational institutions, social organisations and the state to combat child abuse, sexual violence, domestic abuse and discrimination against women.
They said society must guarantee every child a safe childhood and every woman a life of dignity and respect.
Bashundhara Shuvosangho Dhaka Metropolitan Coordinator Abdul Hannan Milton attended the programme and provided overall guidance. Wari Thana unit President Nasrin Akter Tisha and General Secretary Amirul Islam Labib led the event.
Addressing the gathering, Milton said social awareness and the promotion of humanitarian values could build a strong social resistance against violence targeting children and women.
“Young people must come forward and raise their voices against injustice,” he said.
In her remarks, Tisha said families and communities must foster respect, empathy and responsibility at every level to ensure the safety of children and women.
“We all need to work together to build a safe and humane society,” she said.
Participants also took an oath to strengthen social resistance against all forms of violence and promote child protection and women’s rights. They pledged to protest injustice and raise awareness within their communities.
Among those present were Wari Thana unit Vice Presidents Imran Hossain and Rafsan Ahmed Rifat; Organising Secretary Ayesha Akon; Religious Affairs Secretaries Rana Hossain and Liza Akter; Sports Affairs Secretaries Ikra, Monir Hossain and Sonali Akter; Social Welfare Affairs Secretaries Rabbi Hossain and Ratul Ahmed; Finance Secretary Jisan Alam; Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Shawon Ahmed; Library and Debate Affairs Secretary Jiniya Akter; and Child and Women Welfare Affairs Secretary Al-Amin Siam.
The programme also drew the participation of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Ramna unit President Ashik Ahmed and members Arafat, Siam Sheikh, Omar, Kamrul, Pakhi, Karima, Liva, Arifa Islam, Riyad, Munna and others.
Young participants expressed their commitment to working collectively for a society free from violence against children and women. Organisers said Bashundhara Shuvosangho would continue to conduct awareness programmes aimed at promoting humanitarian values, social consciousness and a rights-based society.
